Coroner and Parties Revisit Scene of Zara Qairina’s Death

Papar:The inquest into the death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir resumed with a second site visit to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datu Mustapha.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the visit included key locations such as classrooms, the Design and Technology room, and facilities in the girls' dormitory block, including a toilet and a dormitory room.

Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan, along with deputy public prosecutors and lawyers representing interested parties, conducted the visit to enhance their understanding of earlier testimonies by examining the actual conditions at the scene.

Teachers and child witnesses were present to clarify matters related to the locations and conditions discussed in their testimonies. The inspection lasted about three hours, concluding the session around 1:30 pm.

Zara Qairina was found unconscious near a drain at her school hostel at 4 am and died on July 17 last year at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Her remains were exhumed for a post-mortem on August 8, with a formal inquest announced shortly after on August 13.

The inquest proceedings are scheduled to continue tomorrow.
