Academia Day Should Be Celebrated on a Larger Scale to Honor Academic Contributions

Kuala Lampur:Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir emphasized the importance of celebrating Academia Day as a significant event to recognize the contributions of lecturers, researchers, and scholars who play a crucial role in education, knowledge advancement, and shaping the nation's future.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zambry highlighted the strength of the country's higher education system, which relies heavily on its academic community. This community is instrumental in driving student success, fostering research and innovation, and achieving international recognition for higher education institutions.

Dr Zambry noted that while pursuing technological progress, including developments in artificial intelligence, it is essential to continue valuing the knowledge and wisdom of educators. Academics, he stated, are vital not only for imparting knowledge but also for guiding society in ethical thinking and evaluating the use of technology.

Reflecting on his three-year tenure at the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr Zambry expressed his conviction that the success of the higher education sector is largely dependent on its thriving academic ecosystem. He proposed that Academia Day, observed on October 5, should be celebrated with greater enthusiasm and more vibrant events at universities, polytechnics, and community colleges.

Dr Zambry concluded that Academia Day should evolve from being an annual event to a cultural practice that appreciates knowledge and honors those dedicated to its pursuit. He shared these views after attending the 2026 national-level Academia Day and Month celebration at Universiti Malaya.
