Kuala lumpur: A total of 270,405 youth have been trained under the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Skills Competency Training Programme (LKK) between 2012 and 2025. CIDB senior general manager for registration and accreditation, Heryanti Helmi, announced these figures during her speech at the Construction Career Aspirations 2026 programme at Taman Tamadun Islam.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme encompasses a broad spectrum of skills, including electrical works, welding, heavy machinery operation, non-destructive testing, architectural drafting, and scaffolding installation. The CIDB has allocated RM604 million to support this initiative over the years, aiming to fulfill the evolving demands of the construction industry.
"CIDB offers more than 100 construction skills training programmes that meet current industry requirements through six Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) centres and CIDB Technologies nationwide," Helmi stated. She highlighted that the employability rate of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates exceeds 94 per cent, reflecting the programme's success in preparing trainees for the modern workforce.
The construction industry has notably shifted from traditional approaches, increasingly adopting technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Industrialised Building Systems (IBS). This transformation underlines the importance of such training programmes in equipping youth with relevant skills.
The Construction Career Aspirations programme, now in its second edition, provides youth and students with the chance to explore various construction skills and competencies, paving the way for sustainable career opportunities. Heryanti emphasized this initiative as part of CIDB's ongoing efforts to bolster industry capacity by cultivating a skilled and competent local workforce.
A total of 500 participants, including youth and students, attended the recent programme. Among its highlights was the CIDB Malaysia Aspirations Town Hall, which featured representatives from the construction industry, TVET icons, and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
