China-Malaysia Collaboration Vital for Digital Economy Expansion: Deputy Minister Teo Emphasizes

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has extended an invitation to Chinese enterprises to enhance collaboration with local companies in advanced digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), 5G applications, and clean energy solutions, as the nation seeks to bolster its digital economy ecosystem. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching emphasized that international cooperation remains a key driver of Malaysia's digital economy growth and highlighted the expanding bilateral cooperation with China.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo expressed Malaysia's readiness to welcome Chinese enterprises to deepen cooperation with Malaysian counterparts during her speech at the 2026 China Smart Industry Trade Exhibition. The event, attended by Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing and China Entrepreneurs' Association in Malaysia (PUCM) president Datuk Keith Li, underscored the importance of leveraging complementary strengths for mutual benefit.

Teo encouraged enterprises from both nations to engage in knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships, reinforcing the already strong bilateral ties. She noted that China has maintained its position as Malaysia's largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with significant growth in smart technology and digital economy collaboration.

Highlighting the complementary advantages of both countries, Teo pointed out that China contributes advanced tech innovation, while Malaysia offers a strategic ASEAN hub, digital infrastructure, and a dynamic market. She also praised the establishment of the Malaysia-China Digital Economy Alliance, co-promoted by PUCM, the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM), and the Silk Road Group. This alliance aims to facilitate policy alignment, industrial synergy, and innovation exchange, thereby accelerating smart technology deployment and unlocking greater potential for both bilateral and regional digital growth.
