Kuala lumpur: Malaysia's cultural, religious, ethnic, and linguistic diversity must continue to be celebrated as a strength to reinforce unity and build a more prosperous future, says Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran. He emphasized the over 130 dialects spoken across the country as a reflection of Malaysia's rich identity, highlighting it as a unique aspect that should be cherished.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yuneswaran spoke to reporters after appearing on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme. He urged Malaysians to safeguard and appreciate the freedom secured from colonial powers by the nation's founding leaders, embodying the spirit of unity within the nation while understanding the diverse cultures, religions, and ethnicities present.

Yuneswaran stressed that unity should be embraced daily, rather than only during National Day or Malaysia Day. He emphasized the importance of knowing national history as a guide for unity and highlighted the Rukun Negara as the primary foundation for unifying Malaysians.

Government efforts to translate economic progress into public wellbeing are also vital for building a harmonious society, according to Yuneswaran. He noted that national development should be evident to the people, enabling them to enjoy a prosperous life and remain confident in Malaysia's future.

Furthermore, Yuneswaran urged the public to learn about and appreciate the cultures, languages, and foods of other ethnic groups to foster greater mutual understanding. He called on the younger generation, particularly Generation Z, to act as agents of unity by understanding national history and playing an active role in bringing people together.

"Younger people have a responsibility to unite the people," he said, encouraging them to hold fast to principles that promote tolerance, mutual understanding, and the embrace of differences.
