Cabinet Approves Release of Royal Commission Report on Tabung Haji

Kuala lumpur: The Cabinet has agreed to declassify and publicly release the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) covering the period from 2014 to 2020 today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister and MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced that the report will also be tabled and debated at a special Dewan Rakyat sitting soon. "The Cabinet today was briefed by Tabung Haji's top management and examined the RCI report on TH covering the period from 2014 to 2020. The Cabinet noted that the report outlines 25 recommendations for improvement, and that TH's top management has successfully implemented 75 percent of those recommendations," he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed confidence that the Cabinet would agree to the proposal to make the RCI report on Tabung Haji public after it was brought before the Cabinet for consideration. Anwar had previously mentioned that the government was prepared to release the RCI's final report in the near future to enable the public to learn the findings of the investigation into allegations involving the sale of the fund's strategic assets.

Meanwhile, Fahmi stated that the Cabinet also noted TH's announcement of a profit distribution rate of 3.5 percent for the 2025 financial year, indicating the improved state of its management. "The Cabinet has decided that a full investigation by the relevant enforcement agencies based on the findings of this report will proceed immediately, and those involved will be brought to justice if any breaches of the law are established," he confirmed.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan had earlier mentioned that the proposal to release the RCI report would be discussed at the Cabinet meeting following confusion and allegations over the sale of Tabung Haji's strategic assets by a former Treasury secretary-general.
