Budget 2027 Increases Funding for Environmental Sustainability and Green Technology

Accra:The allocation for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) has been increased by 4.8 percent to RM2.51 billion under Budget 2027. This funding boost aims to enhance biodiversity conservation, wildlife protection, and environmental sustainability.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Ecological Fiscal Transfer for Biodiversity Conservation (EFT) incentive has also seen an increase, rising by eight percent to RM270 million from RM250 million in 2026. This increase underscores the importance of collaboration between the federal government and state governments to intensify environmental conservation efforts and protect the nation's biodiversity.

Additionally, the allocation for Property and Crop Loss Assistance Due to Wildlife Attacks (BKHT) has been raised by 20 percent to RM1.8 million, up from RM1.5 million last year. This increase is intended to help mitigate the losses experienced by the public as a result of human-wildlife conflict.

In the green technology sector, the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) programme and the Green Technology Financing Scheme (GFS) have been extended and enhanced until December 31, 2030. Companies investing in qualifying green technology assets, such as energy-efficient equipment and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations for their own use, are eligible for tax allowances of up to 100 percent.

These measures are supported by a RM15 billion investment by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in the National Grid, a RM1 billion investment by UEM Lestra in hybrid energy and energy storage projects, the provision of the RM1 billion KWAP Climate Fund, and the development of the Pengerang Biorefinery to produce low-carbon fuels such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
