Arun Dorasamy’s Representation Rejected; Trial Set for February 2027

Jawi:The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has rejected a representation made by activist Arun Dorasamy, formally known as Arumugam Dorasamy. This decision relates to charges against him for allegedly making a statement intended to incite public alarm via social media last year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Public Prosecutor Airina Syazreen Zainurin informed the court of this rejection during proceedings at the Jawi Magistrate's Court, presided over by Magistrate Balqis Roslin.

The court scheduled the trial to commence on February 1, 2027, with the prosecution planning to call approximately seven witnesses. Arumugam is being represented by lawyer T. Gunaseelan.

Arumugam, 56, had claimed trial on March 17 to charges of posting a potentially inciting statement on his Instagram account. The incident allegedly occurred at a shopping centre in Batu Kawan, South Seberang Perai, on March 12, 2025, at 345 pm. The statement reportedly urged the Hindu organisation, Pertubuhan Hindu Agamam Ani Malaysia, to organize a street protest if no action was taken against independent preacher Zamri Vinoth over a controversial video involving three local radio presenters accused of mocking a religious festival.

He faces charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which can result in a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
