Beaufort:Regular monitoring of project implementation in Sabah and Sarawak through the MyProjek system will be intensified to prevent further delays in development projects, particularly those experienced by Packages 1 and 2 of the Pan Borneo Highway (LPB).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud highlighted delays in the LPB project, especially the Beaufort-Sipitang stretch in Sabah, as noted in a recent audit report debated in the Dewan Rakyat. Delays were attributed to site preparation issues and other factors, leading to increased costs over its almost eight-year duration.
Mustapha emphasized the importance of resolving these issues to expedite the project, stating it was crucial for economic growth in the region. He urged all parties involved to collaborate on solutions, noting that construction challenges were often unpredictable, particularly with new roads.
Under Budget 2027, the government allocated RM3.3 billion to address these delays and expedite LPB construction. Mustapha, also the Sepanggar MP, noted that the highway would significantly impact Sabah and Sarawak economically, enhancing local development and tourism.
Additionally, Mustapha mentioned the RM1.3 billion allocation to upgrade 682 dilapidated schools in the region, though acknowledging it as insufficient. The government commitment includes doubling Public Service Department scholarships for Sabah and Sarawak students and various educational assistance measures as part of the MADANI Government's efforts to support education sector development.
