Anwar Urges Political Parties to Keep Royal Institutions Out of Election Debates

Melaka: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reminded all parties not to drag the royal institution into political polemics, particularly in the run-up to elections. He emphasized that political differences or statements should be managed without involving the royal institution.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar made these remarks after attending a meet-and-greet session with civil servants, alongside Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, at the Public Works Department's Centre of Excellence for Engineering and Technology (CREaTE). During the session, he addressed comments made by Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu at a recent event in Johor, which were perceived by some as targeting the royal institution.

Anwar affirmed the importance of handling political matters independently and urged politicians to engage in mature discourse. He stated, "This is an election. Let those involved engage in politics. Do not drag the sacred institution of the Malay Rulers into it."

The event was attended by several key figures, including Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim. Other notable attendees included Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad.
