Anwar Offers Condolences on Death of Former Vietnamese Leader Tran Duc Luong


Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences following the passing of former Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong. Anwar highlighted Tran Duc Luong’s significant contributions during a pivotal era in Vietnam’s history, particularly in relation to the Doi Moi economic reforms.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar acknowledged Tran Duc Luong’s steady leadership as both Deputy Prime Minister and later as President, noting his role in guiding Vietnam through transformative changes while maintaining stability. Anwar conveyed his deepest sympathies to Tran Duc Luong’s family and the Vietnamese people through a message posted on Facebook.



Tran Duc Luong passed away at 10:51 pm on Tuesday, May 20, at his home in Hanoi after an illness. He was 88 years old. His tenure as Deputy Prime Minister spanned from September 1992 to August 1997, and he served as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from September 1997 until June 2006.
