Anwar Ibrahim Defends DAP, Advocates for Inclusive Governance

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that the Democratic Action Party (DAP) has never challenged the rights of the Malay community, countering claims by some groups attempting to depict the party as promoting racial bias. Anwar, who heads Pakatan Harapan (PH), highlighted that DAP has supported initiatives such as the designation of 20.23 hectares in Bandar Malaysia as Malay Reserve Land.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that as the leader of the Unity Government, his duty is to ensure fairness across all ethnic groups so that the nation's prosperity benefits everyone. "We do programmes for the Malay community, Bumiputeras, and increase allocations for Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB), and DAP has no issue with this," he remarked. However, he also noted the importance of supporting other communities, emphasizing that all underprivileged groups, including Chinese and Indians, deserve assistance alongside the majority of poor Malays.

Anwar further commented on the equitable distribution of the country's economic gains, urging that these benefits should reach all societal levels and not serve the interests of a select few. He highlighted the necessity for economic growth to translate into societal well-being, through improved housing, basic infrastructure, and education quality.

He stressed that political power is a public trust meant for service, not personal enrichment, reinforcing his commitment to fair governance. Meanwhile, the Johor state election is underway with 172 candidates vying for 56 assembly seats, with polling scheduled for July 11 and early voting on July 7.
