Amputee Achieves Academic Dream, Graduates With Master’s in Islamic Theology

Ipoh: The loss of his left leg to diabetes six months ago did not deter 62-year-old Muhamad Sabri Di from completing his master’s degree in Usuluddin (Islamic theology) at Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah (USAS) this year. The retired teacher viewed this challenge as a divine gift, motivating him to enhance his understanding in this field.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhamad Sabri, who was diagnosed with diabetes while pursuing his master’s degree, remained steadfast in his educational journey. He expressed that his love for learning and reading, especially subjects like aqidah (creed), propelled him to deepen his knowledge for personal growth, family enrichment, and to enhance his role as a kadi in the community.

Earlier at the convocation ceremony, Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak conferred various degrees and diplomas, including those in Management and Information Technology, as well as in the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Social Sciences. The event marked the 18th USAS convocation, celebrating the achievements of 1,755 graduates, including six PhD candidates, 50 master’s and postgraduate diploma recipients, 759 bachelor’s degree holders, and 940 diploma graduates.

Muhammad Sabri, who continues his work as a takmir teacher and deputy kadi at three mosques in the Ipoh area, emphasized the importance of continuous learning. He noted that as the community becomes more knowledgeable, educators must expand their insights to share valuable perspectives with others.
