Agro-Food Trade Relations Between Malaysia and US Show Promising Growth

Putrajaya: Agricultural trade relations between Malaysia and the United States (US) continue to grow positively, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said. He emphasized the commitment of the MADANI Government to ensure that all cooperation considers national interests, food security for the population, and the long-term sustainability of the agricultural sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad detailed these developments in a Facebook post following a courtesy call from Luke J. Lindberg, Deputy Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), along with US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan and their delegation. The meeting took place at Wisma Tani in Putrajaya.

"This meeting reflects the close bilateral ties enjoyed between Malaysia and the United States, particularly in strengthening strategic cooperation in the agriculture and food security sector," Mohamad stated. Discussions during the meeting included topics such as agro-food trade, compliance with food safety standards, modernisation, and the adoption of agricultural technology. Potential areas of cooperation that could yield mutual benefits for farmers and industry players in both countries were also explored.

Mohamad expressed optimism about these ongoing efforts, stating, "Insya-Allah, these continued efforts will strengthen the national agro-food ecosystem, boost productivity, and contribute to the well-being of the people and national economic development."
