Kuala Lumpur: About 76,000 pigs infected with African Swine Fever (ASF) in 57 farms around Kuala Langat and Sepang have been disposed of by the Selangor Veterinary Services Department (DVS) last week. Selangor Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco Datuk Izham Hashim announced that the disposal process was completed ahead of the projected deadline of March 31.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the two districts house a total of 115 pig farms, including one illegal facility. Investigations conducted by the DVS revealed that 57 of these farms tested positive for ASF, while the remaining farms were cleared of the virus. Izham shared this information during a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat Building.
In addition to the disposal efforts, DVS Selangor seized 68 pigs and 9,405.7 kilograms of pig carcasses due to various offences, including unauthorized movement of the animals. Consequently, seven investigation papers have been filed under Section 34 and Section 36 of the Animals Act 1953. These cases will soon be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office for further action.
Izham also mentioned that a policy paper regarding animal farm management is in the approval process with the State Executive Council (MMKN). This policy aims to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future.
In a separate update, Izham, who also serves as the Pandan Indah State Assemblyman, announced the distribution of 700 cows and 1,000 goats for the upcoming ‘Program Sumbangan Korban Negeri Selangor’ (PSKNS) 2025, coinciding with the Aidiladha celebration. This initiative is supported by a budget allocation of RM6 million.
