Beting Lintang:Ahmad Fathi Fakhrulrazi, a 28-year-old farmer, has successfully cultivated 3,000 pineapple plants on a 0.07-hectare plot of Bris soil, a type of sandy soil typically unsuitable for many crops.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Fathi employs polybags to grow MD2 pineapples, overcoming the challenges of the coastal soil. This method simplifies the management of the growing medium, drainage, and fertilization.
Despite the labor-intensive process of filling each bag with soil at an initial cost of about RM9 per bag, Ahmad Fathi believes profitability is achievable if the pineapples are of high quality. He selected the MD2 variety due to its strong market demand and versatility as fresh fruit or processed products such as juice.
Ahmad Fathi's interest in agriculture began at the age of six, inspired by his grandmother who taught him pumpkin cultivation. Although he holds a Level 3 Malaysian Skills Certificate in polymer technology, he has chosen agriculture as his career path. He manages the farm with the help of one worker and personal involvement in crop maintenance.
Supported by his father, a retired senior government officer, Ahmad Fathi aims to expand his project, proving that even land deemed unsuitable can be effectively utilized with proper techniques. In addition to his Beting Lintang farm, he is also cultivating 10,000 MD2 pineapple plants on a 0.4-hectare plot in Kampung Tok Raja, near his family home. He plans to expand his pineapple cultivation efforts gradually.
