Labuan:Adam Kong Jeng Li, an Asia Times journalist based in Labuan, has become the 861st media practitioner to benefit from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA initiative. Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil also contributed personally towards the purchase of a new prosthetic leg for him.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi visited Adam at his residence in Taman Arena Kerupang and provided assistance under the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM initiative. This program is designed to support media practitioners who are dealing with health, welfare, and financial challenges.
Adam has been using a prosthetic leg since the age of eight, due to a disability affecting his right leg. Over the years, he has had to replace his prosthetic leg several times and bear the costs of repairs when parts became damaged or worn out. His current prosthetic leg, in use for over seven years, is increasingly worn, affecting his comfort and mobility, especially in his role as a journalist.
Recognizing the challenges Adam faces, Fahmi extended a personal contribution to help with the costs of acquiring a new prosthetic leg that better suits his current needs and daily activities. During the visit, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Services Shukri Ishak were also present.
The Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM initiative, backed by Telekom Malaysia's corporate social responsibility funding, has benefited 90 media practitioners since its inception in June. The broader Tabung Kasih@HAWANA program, launched by the Communications Ministry through Bernama in April 2023, aims to provide assistance to media practitioners across Malaysia. To date, 860 practitioners had received support before Adam.
