Kuala Lampur:Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan emphasized the need for young diplomats to adapt to the rapidly changing global geopolitical and geo-economic landscape during a speech at the 2026 Diploma in Diplomacy Graduation Ceremony.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Hasan stressed that today's diplomats must move beyond traditional approaches, embracing flexibility and adaptability, especially in light of rapid technological advancements. He urged diplomats to view their postings as opportunities for growth rather than punishment, highlighting the importance of diverse experiences in shaping capable and knowledgeable diplomats.
Mohamad Hasan also called for Malaysia to reclaim its position as a leading reference center in diplomacy among ASEAN nations. He noted that Malaysian diplomats were once pivotal in international agreements and documentation, a status that has waned. To address this, he urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expedite efforts in enhancing the exposure, experience, and knowledge of Malaysian diplomats.
He warned that other countries have advanced in producing outstanding diplomats, posing a challenge for Malaysia to strengthen its human capital in diplomacy. Moreover, he reminded graduates of the Diploma in Diplomacy program to consider their education as an ongoing process and to uphold the nation's image in international dealings.
The minister also emphasized maintaining Malaysia's independence in international negotiations, ensuring that the country's interests remain paramount. He advised diplomats to protect their integrity, emphasizing the temporary nature of postings and the enduring importance of strong personal values.
At the ceremony, 20 Administrative and Diplomatic Officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister's Department received their diplomas from Mohamad Hasan.
