Women’s Team Sprint Trio Secures Silver at 2026 Asian Games

Aichi-Nagoya:The national women's track cycling team, consisting of Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, Anis Amira Rosidi, and Nur Alyssa Farid, claimed a silver medal in the team sprint event at the 2026 Asian Games held at the Izu Velodrome.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the trio recorded a time of 48.566 seconds in the final, finishing behind China's team of Luo Xuehuang, Yuan Liying, and Jiang Yulu, who set a new Asian record with a time of 45.370 seconds to win the gold medal. The previous Asian record of 45.487 seconds was also held by China, set in 2024.

Taiwan's team, comprising Wang Sin-Ting, Chen Ching-Yun, and Liu Shang-Ying, took the bronze medal with a time of 49.061 seconds, narrowly defeating Japan's team, which finished with a time of 49.137 seconds.

Nurul Izzah, Anis, and Alyssa also set a new national record during the qualifying round, posting a time of 48.023 seconds, surpassing the previous national best of 48.086 seconds set at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships in Tagaytay. Malaysia had previously won a bronze medal in this event at the Hangzhou Asiad.

In another event, the Malaysian men's team sprinters, Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis, Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom, and Mohd Akmal Nazimi Jusena, missed out on the podium, finishing behind Hong Kong in their race. The team clocked 44.341 seconds, while Hong Kong secured the bronze with a time of 43.507 seconds. China won the gold with a time of 42.152 seconds, defeating Japan, who finished with a time of 42.511 seconds.
