Kuala Terengganu: A 39-year-old woman lost RM30,200 to an online job scam after being lured through a WhatsApp group offering high-paying tasks.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the incident began when the victim was contacted on April 4 by an individual who claimed she would receive a solar lamp as a gift.
She was subsequently invited to join a WhatsApp group that offered commission-based tasks through an e-commerce platform. Initially, the woman completed several tasks and received payments, leading her to believe the offer was legitimate.
However, Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor reported that the payments stopped, with the suspect claiming that the delay was due to late submission of tasks. In an attempt to secure her commission, the victim made six transactions amounting to RM30,200 to the suspect.
Realising she had been scammed, the woman filed a police report. The case is currently under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which covers offenses related to cheating.
