Woman Accused of Killing Mother to Undergo Mental Health Evaluation

Menglembu:The Magistrate's Court ordered a woman, charged with the murder of her mother, to undergo a psychiatric assessment. Magistrate Norizan Riduan issued the order to obtain a report on the mental fitness of the accused, Chew Loong Thye, aged 49, under Section 342(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chew is alleged to have murdered her 70-year-old mother, Ching Lai Khieng, at their home on Laluan Kledang Utara 6, Taman Wang, Menglembu, between 7.15 pm and 7.30 pm on September 27. After the charge was read in Cantonese, Chew nodded in understanding, but no plea was recorded, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

When asked by the magistrate if she was taking psychiatric medication, Chew responded that she was unsure. The court has scheduled November 2 for the case mention, when the psychiatric report and related documents are expected to be submitted.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ainin Sofiya Azlaini. Chew appeared in court without legal representation. Reports previously indicated that an elderly woman was found dead, believed to have been stabbed by her daughter, at the residence.
