Kuala lumpur: The work-from-home (WFH) initiative has saved RM4.22 million in RON95 petrol subsidies, which is equivalent to 2.14 million litres, according to Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Azri shared these figures while speaking at the Encouraging, Responsibility, Accountability, Trustworthiness (ERAT) Appreciation Ceremony. He noted that the data was recorded as of May 25, following the initiative’s introduction on April 15, to alleviate the financial strain from the global supply crisis.
Shamsul Azri emphasized that WFH should not be misinterpreted as an opportunity for complacency, but rather as a measure to control petrol consumption. The government commenced the WFH initiative on April 15 to manage subsidy pressures and ensure uninterrupted services for the public.
Media reports from April 30 highlighted that within just 10 days of implementing WFH, the government saved RM1.9 million in petrol subsidies, involving 979,632 litres and 200,000 civil servants.
To maintain effective service delivery during WFH, Shamsul Azri urged department heads to adopt the T.E.G.A.S concept-swift action, empathy, clear ideas, adaptability, and effective strategies.
He further encouraged civil servants to embody the values of M.A.L.A.Y.S.I.A, which include being Friendly, Fair, Noble, Trustworthy, Confident, Loyal, Reformative, and Wise, in their service delivery, irrespective of an individual’s societal status.
Highlighting the importance of integrity, Shamsul Azri reminded civil servants of their responsibility to fulfill their duties without discrimination, ensuring equal treatment for all, whether dignitaries or ordinary citizens.
Earlier at the event, EAIC chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar remarked on the demanding nature of being a department head, stressing the importance of integrity and swift justice to preserve the credibility of enforcement agencies.
