Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds across six states until 7 pm today. The warning highlights severe weather conditions expected to impact various regions within the states, urging residents to remain cautious and prepared.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MetMalaysia's statement specifies that the weather alert covers the areas of Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah, all of Penang, and several regions in Perak including Kerian, Manjung, Bagan Datuk, Larut, Matang, and Selama. Additionally, Johor's regions of Pontian, Kulai, and Johor Bahru are included in the warning.
The advisory further extends to Sarawak, affecting Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Serian, and Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), as well as the Kapit region (Song, Kapit, and Bukit Mabong). In Sabah, the interior areas of Nabawan and Tambunan, the west coast including Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau, and Kota Belud, along with Tawau and Kudat, are also under the alert.
MetMalaysia explained that the warning is issued when signs of thunderstorms are detected, with projected rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour expected to persist for more than an hour. The department noted that a thunderstorm warning serves as a short-term alert, valid for up to six hours, and emphasized the importance of staying informed of weather updates.
