Kuala lumpur: The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has confirmed that the reference number on a viral letter claiming its recognition of an organisation to handle marriage matters is fake. In a statement posted on its official Facebook page today, JAKIM said checks found that the document was neither recognised nor issued by any Islamic religious authority in Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JAKIM emphasized that neither it nor the state Islamic religious councils and departments had appointed the organisation mentioned in the letter to manage or certify marriage-related matters. The department clarified, "The reference number on the letter is fake."
JAKIM urged the public to verify any doubtful religious documents with the department or relevant state Islamic religious authorities before accepting their authenticity. This proactive step is aimed at preventing misinformation and ensuring that the public receives accurate guidance on religious matters.
Earlier, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan stated that the matter would be investigated after complete information was obtained. The viral letter, allegedly issued by the Malaysia Rohingya Ulama Council, displayed the reference number 'JAKIM.PERH/LN.800-7(5)', which had raised questions over its legitimacy and connection to JAKIM.
