Kuala lumpur: Former Bangi Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Ong Kian Ming announced his resignation as a member of the DAP, effective today. In his latest Facebook post, Ong said that his decision had been conveyed to DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook and DAP National Organising Secretary Khoo Poay Tiong. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ong expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he had to contribute to the party and the country in various capacities since joining the party in 2012. He served as a Member of Parliament for Serdang from 2013 to 2018 and for Bangi from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) from 2018 to 2020. Ong was also an appointed member of the Central Executive Committee from 2019 to 2022 and served as an elected member of the DAP Selangor state committee from 2018 to 2024. In his statement, Ong clarified that he does not plan to join another political party in the near future and will not seek to conte st as a candidate in the next general election (GE16). He emphasized that he intends to continue serving the interests of the country through other means.
