Kuala lumpur: A man rescued from a kidnapping case demanding a RM7 million ransom has been detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 after investigations linked him to a drug syndicate. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar reported the development, revealing that the 44-year-old was detained by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department in Selangor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, checks found the man has a criminal record involving commercial offences. Preliminary investigations indicated his involvement in a drug syndicate. During his arrest, a urine screening test returned positive for drugs, Kumar disclosed at a press conference at the Subang Jaya district police headquarters.

In related developments, police arrested two other men in their 30s in connection with the kidnapping case in Selangor. One of the suspects is a former police officer dismissed from the force in 2023 for a drug-related case. Both men have been remanded for 10 days to assist in further investigations. Police are actively tracking several other individuals believed to be involved in the case.

The victim was rescued in a special operation in Selangor last Sunday. Authorities arrested six individuals, including a woman, aged 30 to 46, suspected of demanding the ransom. All suspects are remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, with investigations ongoing under Section 3(1) of the same Act and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
