Seremban: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Ampangan state seat Datuk Muhammad Nazri Kassim hopes to transform the constituency into a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant township if given the mandate in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Nazri stated that one of his priorities is to ensure that basic infrastructure such as roads, drains, ditches, and rivers is properly maintained to prevent flooding, which had affected residents in the past. He highlighted that the major floods in 2021 underscored the importance of more effective river management, including a collaborative approach to river maintenance implemented by the Negeri Sembilan government. Muhammad Nazri expressed satisfaction with the programme's success, noting that over the past three to four years, the area has not experienced severe flooding as before. He emphasized that besides flood mitigation, the improving condition of rivers also creates opportunities to develop recreational areas for ac tivities such as jogging, cycling, and other sports. He pointed out that Ampangan's location in the heart of Seremban gives it the potential to be developed into an economic hub. By revitalising areas like Benteng to attract more visitors, income opportunities for small traders and local residents could be created. He added that a clean Ampangan with attractive landscaping and well-maintained rivers and drains will provide a better quality of life and enable more business opportunities. On the campaign trail, Muhammad Nazri has adopted a face-to-face approach, conducting house-to-house visits to hear directly from voters about the issues they face. He believes this approach enables candidates to gain a clearer understanding of residents' actual concerns, which can assist in formulating more effective solutions if given the mandate in the state election. Muhammad Nazri later joined Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman, at the 'Santai Petang Bersama Warga Ampangan' (An Afternoon C hat with Ampangan Residents) event at Benteng @ Medan Selera Ampangan. The Ampangan state constituency, located within the Seremban parliamentary constituency, has 21,336 registered voters and will see a three-cornered contest involving Muhammad Nazri, Datuk Dr Mohamad Rafie Malek of Perikatan Nasional (PN), and Noor'azah Harun of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu). The Election Commission (EC) has set Aug 1 as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election, with early voting scheduled for July 28.
