Uruguay Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin Arrives In Malaysia For ASEAN Meetings

Kuala lumpur: Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin arrived in Kuala Lumpur to attend the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lubetkin landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 2.45pm. His visit signifies Uruguay’s intent to strengthen diplomatic ties with ASEAN member states by participating in the signing of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC).

The TAC, established in 1976 and amended in 1987, allows non-ASEAN countries to join and emphasizes principles such as mutual respect, non-interference, and peaceful settlement of disputes. In addition to Uruguay, Algeria is also set to accede to the treaty, highlighting a concerted effort to promote peaceful and cooperative relations in the Southeast Asian region.

The signing ceremony is a part of the ongoing 58th AMM and related meetings at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), conducted under Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme, ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.
