Putrajaya: The review on the potential reinstatement of the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) examinations is anticipated to be completed within this year, as announced by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. The review process is set to begin shortly following the finalization of member appointments to the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Education Minister affirmed that preparations for the review are in place, with the only pending factor being the appointment of the council members. "The MPPK is currently in the process of being appointed. In terms of preparation, we are ready. We are just waiting for the appointment of the council members, after which the review can be completed as soon as possible this year," Fadhlina stated during an event at Sekolah Kebangsaan Presint 9 (1).
The UPSR was abolished in 2021, followed by the discontinuation of PT3 in 2022, both of which were replaced by the School-Based Assessment (PBS) system. The ongoing review process stems from requests and feedback from parents and educators advocating for the necessity of these assessments.
Fadhlina highlighted that the ministry had collected perspectives from various stakeholders, leading to the government's decision to revisit this issue before implementing any significant changes to the national education policy. She emphasized the government's commitment to considering public feedback and adopting a consultative approach before finalizing critical educational decisions.
In another development, Fadhlina commented on the distribution of the Early Schooling Aid (BAP), indicating that the Education Ministry aims to complete the distribution process nationwide within the week, with some flexibility provided for specific schools. "We hope to be able to complete the distribution this week as well, but we are allowing a little more time, particularly for schools in rural areas and those with a large student population, which may require additional time to manage the process," she noted, adding that the distribution has been proceeding smoothly across the country.
