Tanjong malim: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is exploring the potential to establish a private specialist hospital in Tanjong Malim as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare facilities and support the development of a future knowledge city ecosystem. Its vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff, stated that the private specialist hospital facility aims to meet the increasing health needs of UPSI international students and staff.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, UPSI is looking into the potential of collaboration with the private specialist hospital, including considering suitable business models to realize this aspiration. Md Amin mentioned that they are currently trying to attract private hospitals or private specialist hospitals to operate in Tanjong Malim or on UPSI's land. The goal is to align support facilities with current developments and community needs.
Md Amin spoke about this initiative during the Budiman Lecture Series and Clock-Out Session of the Dean of the Faculty of Human Development (FPM), Prof Dr Abdul Talib Mohamed Hashim, at the Main Auditorium, Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah UPSI Campus in Tanjong Malim. He emphasized that planning aligns with future needs as UPSI and Tanjong Malim continue to develop as educational centers requiring quality support facilities.
In addition to developing health facilities, UPSI has a long-term aspiration to create retirement facilities in Tanjong Malim, allowing retired university staff to remain connected with the campus. Md Amin detailed proposals to develop a retirement resort as part of efforts to establish a UPSI retirees' community in the area.
In the meantime, Md Amin expressed appreciation to Abdul Talib for his significant contributions over more than 20 years of service at UPSI. He acknowledged Abdul Talib as a leader with high diplomacy and readiness to assist the university in fulfilling various responsibilities. "The contributions and sacrifices of Abdul Talib will continue to be remembered as part of the history of UPSI's development," Md Amin added.
