Ipoh: The public has been reminded to act more responsibly before uploading video recordings related to crimes or misconduct on social media, as such actions could affect police investigations and carry legal implications. Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director Noor Hisam Nordin highlighted the potential risks associated with sharing such content online during a press conference today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Noor Hisam, who is also the Perak police chief, noted that some individuals are overly eager for attention on social media without understanding the impact on investigations conducted by authorities. He emphasized that while some recordings can aid investigations, others could disrupt them, especially when shared without awareness of the legal implications and effects on the parties involved.
He further expressed concerns about the safety of individuals involved in these recordings, stating that their identities could be compromised if certain parties identify them, particularly in cases involving criminal activities or dangerous criminals. Noor Hisam advised the public to channel information or recordings related to misconduct directly to the police to ensure appropriate action can be taken.
Touching on today's programme, Noor Hisam mentioned it was organised to foster closer ties between the police and the community. It also served as a platform for sharing information on security issues and crime prevention. He underscored the importance of public support in maintaining the morale and spirit of the police force, as well as raising awareness about the constraints and challenges faced by security personnel in carrying out their duties.
Noor Hisam concluded by urging the community to step forward and assist the police, particularly in preventing and solving criminal cases, as the police cannot be present everywhere at all times.
