University Student Charged with Stabbing Ex-girlfriend in Bandar Sunway

Bandar sunway: A 22-year-old Chinese national and student at a private university pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to a charge of causing grievous injury by stabbing his former girlfriend in the neck.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the accused, You Wei, made the plea after the charge was read to him in English by a court interpreter in front of Judge Norazlin Othman. You Wei is charged with intentionally inflicting grievous harm on the victim, also a Chinese national, by stabbing her on the left side of her neck with a knife.

The incident allegedly occurred around 6:30 pm on July 14 on the second floor of the private university located in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya. You Wei faces charges under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which can lead to a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or caning upon conviction.

During the court proceedings, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal did not propose bail. However, the accused’s lawyer, Revin Kumar, requested the court’s discretion to grant bail, noting that his client had cooperated fully during the investigation and was willing to adhere to any additional conditions.

Kumar stated, “The accused is currently undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder at a private clinic and is on prescribed medication. He is also prepared to surrender his passport and report to the police as required.” The court subsequently set bail at RM20,000 with two sureties. Additionally, the accused was instructed to surrender his passport to the court, report to the nearest police station, and avoid any contact with the victim or prosecution witnesses.

The case is scheduled for mention on September 17. Earlier media reports indicated that a 20-year-old female student sustained serious injuries after being stabbed in the neck at the university.
