UniSZA Provides Financial Support to Family of Student Killed in Accident

Kuala terengganu: Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has extended financial assistance to the family of Syakirah Hanan Mazli, a student who lost her life in a traffic accident at a traffic light junction on Jalan Kemajuan on January 5.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the university contributed RM7,000 from its Student Welfare and Protection Fund as a gesture of sympathy and support to help ease the family's burden. This was confirmed by the deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Hafiz Yusoff. The contribution was presented by UniSZA's pro-chancellor, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Md Nor, to Syakirah's father, Mazli Yusoh, at their home in Kampung Alor Selinsing.

In his statement, Dr Mohd Hafiz expressed UniSZA's condolences to the family and reiterated the university's commitment to student welfare, which includes providing support to families affected by such tragedies.

The accident took place at 1:55 pm on January 5 when Syakirah Hanan, 25, was involved in a collision with a high-speed Honda Jazz while making a right turn on a green light in her Perodua Viva near UniSZA. She was a second-semester Postgraduate Diploma in Education student and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, a court hearing was held on Monday where the driver of the Honda Jazz, Mohd Izuddin Zakaria, 32, was ordered by the Magistrate's Court to undergo a psychiatric assessment at Hospital Permai in Johor Bahru.
