Kuala lumpur: National Cancer Council (MAKNA) founder and former deputy health minister Datuk Mohd Farid Ariffin has died at the age of 84.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, MAKNA confirmed his death in a Facebook statement, highlighting his visionary leadership and dedication that significantly impacted the lives of many and reinforced the nation's cancer fight. The statement expressed hopes for divine forgiveness and mercy for Mohd Farid, as well as patience and strength for his family during this challenging period.
His daughter, Farahida, reported that Mohd Farid passed away at 5.38 pm. Arrangements for his final rites include bathing and prayers at Masjid Kariah Labu Hilir, Kampung Labu Hilir, Labu, Negeri Sembilan, scheduled for 9.30 am today, with the burial to follow at approximately 11 am.
Mohd Farid, originally from Kuala Nerang, Kedah, served as Malaysia's deputy health minister from 1989 to 1995. In 1994, he established MAKNA to enhance public awareness about cancer and to offer extensive support-financial, emotional, physical, and educational-to cancer patients, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
