Kuala terengganu: Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) launched the Smart Dialysis Education, Daily Record and Reporting System (EDRIS) to support the management of dialysis treatment in a more systematic, efficient, and integrated manner. Its vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Fadzli Adam, announced the development of EDRIS, aligning with the national healthcare system's current needs as the number of kidney patients rises.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the EDRIS application is not just an educational platform and storage system for patient treatment records. It also includes reporting functions and smart system elements that support continuous monitoring of dialysis treatment while focusing on patient well-being. Fadzli stated that UniSZA has achieved a significant milestone in digital health innovation with the launch of EDRIS, the first of its kind in Malaysia, marking the university's success in applying academic research outcomes to benefit the healthcare industry and society.
Fadzli further explained that through this system, patients can independently learn, record, and manage their health levels. Meanwhile, nurses and health professionals will monitor and support patient care by accessing continuously generated structured data. Unlike conventional digital diaries, EDRIS integrates health education, self-care, clinical monitoring, and smart reporting into a single platform specifically designed for haemodialysis needs.
"This approach empowers patients to actively engage in their healthcare, enhances communication between patients and healthcare teams, and supports dialysis centres with more organised and accessible data," he added. The development of EDRIS underscores UniSZA's commitment to leading health-based digital innovation and exemplifies how academic expertise and research outcomes can be transformed into practical solutions to enhance the efficiency of health service delivery.
