Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced plans to implement a new school curriculum progressively starting next year, aiming to keep the education system dynamic and aligned with future needs. Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh disclosed that the initial phase will commence with Year One and Form One students in 2027, followed by Year Two and Form Two in 2028.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Wong stated that each curriculum is implemented for a defined period, after which a new curriculum is introduced. He emphasized that curriculum reviews are conducted as needed, with certain subjects undergoing periodic evaluations to ensure continued relevance.
In response to a supplementary question posed by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (MUDA-Muar) in the Dewan Rakyat, Wong elaborated on the ministry's approach to curriculum reviews. Earlier, responding to Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat), Wong highlighted the integration of national and political education elements into history and civic education. This initiative aims to give students early exposure to democracy.
Wong also mentioned collaborative efforts with the Election Academy (APR) to enhance political literacy. These efforts provide students with experiential learning opportunities about the voting process and their roles as future voters.
Furthermore, Wong announced the introduction of the MADANI Generation Character Building Programme this year. The program focuses on four core components, including fostering patriotism and cultivating a positive identity among students. Mohd Sany had inquired about the government's policy and initiatives to provide civic and political education at the secondary school level, ensuring students understand essential political concepts before encountering partisan politics.
