Kuala lumpur: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) election machinery has been urged to actively raise awareness among new voters aged 18 and above in Sarawak of their eligibility to vote in the state election expected to be held at the end of next year. PBB vice-president Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee emphasized the importance of educating young voters about their automatic eligibility to vote, as many still believe they need to register under the previous system.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Annuar highlighted that this upcoming state election marks the first opportunity for these young voters to participate, underscoring the need for clear explanations to ensure they understand and fulfill their voting responsibilities. "I found that many young people still thought they were not old enough to register as voters, even though they are already eligible to vote. This shows that the level of awareness remains low," he mentioned during a speech at the PBB Sibu get-together held at the LAKIS Hall.
Dr Annuar, who also serves as the Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development and is the Nangka assemblyman, stressed the importance of a strong mandate to support the leadership of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in advancing the state's development agenda. He urged all PBB branches in Sibu, including Dudong, Bukit Assek, Pelawan, Bawang Assan, and Nangka, to streamline and strengthen their election machinery in preparation for the forthcoming state election.
