Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has praised Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for its decision to reschedule the convocation ceremony, enabling students to return home and participate in the 17th Sabah State Election scheduled for November 29.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir emphasized that the decision aligns with the government’s commitment to uphold students’ voting rights. “The university has agreed to adjust the convocation date. Although there were differing views at the outset, the matter was eventually settled,” he mentioned to reporters.
This adjustment addresses the concerns of students caught between academic commitments and their civic duty. Notably, 60 percent of UMS students hail from Sabah, making the decision particularly significant. Consequently, the university has postponed its convocation by one day, now slated for November 30.
