UMNO’s Historical Legacy Insufficient for Garnering Support: Johari

Kuala lumpur: UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has urged party members to refrain from relying on the party's historical legacy to attract public support. He emphasized the necessity for UMNO to adapt to the country's evolving political landscape, particularly in addressing the concerns and preferences of the youth.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johari highlighted that loyalty to a party is no longer a priority for the younger generation, based on his dialogues with students. This demographic now evaluates political parties on their performance, integrity, and ability to address pressing issues such as the cost of living and employment opportunities. Johari stressed that Malay voters have multiple options and diverse preferences, with the party's image and integrity yet to fully recover.

While speaking at the UMNO 80th Anniversary Convention at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, Johari reiterated the importance of acknowledging these changes. He called on the party to adapt its strategies to meet the current realities and expectations of the electorate.

In a related address, fellow UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail encouraged party members to move beyond prejudices against those who may feel alienated by the party. He advocated for a broader agenda of unity, highlighting the need for the Rumah Bangsa concept to serve as an inclusive and forgiving platform. Rumah Bangsa, initiated by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, aims to foster unity among Malays and welcome former members back into the party. Wan Rosdy emphasized that this initiative should resonate across all levels, from grassroots to urban areas.
