Kuala lumpur: UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced the decision to postpone the party's elections in a strategic move to concentrate efforts on the upcoming 16th general election (GE16).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the postponement aims to enable UMNO to bolster its internal operations and focus on the upcoming Melaka and Johor state elections, alongside GE16. Dr Asyraf emphasized the importance of prioritizing election preparations to avoid complications that might arise from concurrent party elections.
UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously stated that the party's elections would be deferred until after GE16, following the approval of amendments to the party constitution at a Special UMNO General Assembly in 2022.
In related developments, Dr Asyraf confirmed that UMNO has not received any reapplication from former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to rejoin the party.
