Kuala terengganu: UMNO delegates and branch leaders must continue engaging with grassroots members to explain the party’s participation in the Unity Government formed after the 15th General Election (GE15), said UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. He emphasized the need for clear communication to address any confusion or disillusionment among the grassroots members.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Khaled highlighted that while the collaboration is gradually gaining acceptance, some members at the grassroots level remain uncertain. He noted that since Barisan Nasional’s (BN) defeat in the 2018 general election, no single party has dominated the national political landscape, and UMNO has only contested as part of a coalition.
When officiating the Kuala Terengganu UMNO Division Delegates’ Meeting, Mohamed Khaled underscored UMNO’s commitment to its founding principles, particularly the defense of Malay rights and privileges. He also mentioned that the party had set clear conditions before joining the Unity Government, including the recognition of Malay leadership.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also the Defence Minister, reassured members that while the party’s strategy may have shifted, its core values and principles remain unchanged, even in cooperation with DAP. He dismissed any claims suggesting otherwise as mere attempts to weaken the party.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Terengganu UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat and division chief Datuk Mohd Sabri Alwi.
