UM Typewriter Exhibition Celebrates Historical Writing Machines

Kuala Lumpur:Universiti Malaya (UM), through its Academy of Malay Studies, is hosting a Typewriter Exhibition to highlight the historical significance and development of writing and communication technology.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the exhibition is taking place from September 1 to October 31 at the Malay Ethnographic Museum. It features over 50 typewriters sourced from various museums, galleries, libraries, and local collectors.

The exhibition presents a range of typewriter designs, brands, and models. It includes special segments such as the Figure Collection, Multiscript Typewriters, and Jawi Typewriter Heritage.

The event is open to the public and aims to educate visitors about the role typewriters have played in the evolution of writing, language, administration, and communication.

Visitors are also invited to participate in an Independence-themed Poetry Writing Competition using typewriters provided at the exhibition space. The competition accepts entries until October 6.
