UKAS, Bernama Strengthen Cooperation For 2027 SEA Games Coverage

Sarawak: The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) are strengthening cooperation in preparation for coverage of the 2027 SEA Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol highlighted the importance of Bernama's role as an experienced media institution in enhancing the capabilities of UKAS personnel. This will be achieved through the organisation of training programmes, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Datuk Abdullah emphasised Bernama's extensive experience in various aspects, appreciating the collaboration in organising specific programmes to prepare UKAS personnel and local journalists. He noted that while they have gained exposure from managing media at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024, the SEA Games presents a different platform requiring more thorough preparation. His remarks followed a courtesy call from Bernama's top management at the UKAS headquarters.

The Bernama delegation was led by Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and included Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Sarawak Bureau chief Ammar Syafiq Hamzah. UKAS deputy director Mohamed Faizal Shah Ali was also present during the meeting.

Abdullah also mentioned that preparations would include the provision of facilities for both local and international journalists expected to cover the Games. He stated that the focus is not only on reporting but also on logistics, such as media centres, internet access, transportation, accommodation, and other facilities, to ensure journalists can perform their duties smoothly.

Nur-ul Afida expressed that the visit served as an opportunity to further solidify the existing relationship between the two agencies. She also affirmed Bernama's readiness to collaborate with UKAS and the state government in hosting upcoming sporting events, including SUKMA and other events in Sarawak.

She added that Bernama's experience in managing international media centres during regional events such as ASEAN meetings, along with several major national events, brings additional value to this collaboration.
