UK House Of Commons Speaker Visits Sarawak Premier To Strengthen Legislative Ties

Kuching: Speaker of the United Kingdom (UK) House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, paid a courtesy call on the Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today. Hoyle emphasized the meeting’s focus on enhancing legislative connections and exploring collaborative opportunities between the UK government and Sarawak, aiming to reinforce the enduring friendship between Malaysia and the UK.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hoyle expressed his enthusiasm for potential joint ventures and future collaborations, stating, “We also talked about joint ventures in the future to see what we could do. I’m pleased to be part of this today. Thank you for having me. What a wonderful country. I will go back with great friendships and memories.”

Earlier in his visit, Hoyle also met with Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at Astana Negeri. This visit to Malaysia by the UK Parliament Speaker comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, who had previously met Hoyle during their working visit to the UK in January.

The UK Parliament Speaker’s itinerary in Malaysia included engagements in Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak, with his visit concluding on Friday as he returns to the UK.
