Kemaman: Two teenagers, including a student with disabilities, were killed after the motorcycles they were riding collided at Jalan Felda Cherul here yesterday. Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the victims, Muhammad Shafiq Hakimi Mohd Nazri, 16, and Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey Mohd Mahazan, 16, were pronounced dead at the scene at 6.45 pm due to severe head and bodily injuries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Shafiq Hakimi, who had a learning disability, was a student at the Felda Cherul Community-Based Rehabilitation Programme, while Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey was a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Cherul near here. Initial investigations found that the accident occurred on a straight stretch of the road, where the motorcycle ridden by Muhammad Shafiq Hakimi was travelling from Felda Cherul towards Bukit Sagu, while the motorcycle ridden by Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey was coming from the opposite direction.
Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey's motorcycle is believed to have entered the opposite lane before colliding with the motorcycle ridden by the other victim. The impact of the collision caused both victims to be thrown several metres onto the road, and they were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
