Two Men Arrested Over Theft At Gold Shop In Jerantut

Jerantut: Police have arrested two men suspected of involvement in a jewellery theft case at a gold shop in Jerantut last April 28.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jerantut Acting Police Chief DSP Arshad Ayob stated that the suspects, aged 23 and 63, were detained at about 4 pm last Monday at separate locations in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. 'Police recovered gold bracelets and rings of various sizes believed to have been stolen in the incident, with an estimated market value of RM26,000. A motorcycle, mobile phone, bank cards and clothing were also seized to assist investigations,' he added in a statement today.

He further mentioned that background checks revealed both suspects had no prior criminal records, and initial urine screening tests returned negative for drug abuse. The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.

On May 1, media reports indicated that police were tracking down a man suspected of stealing jewellery worth nearly RM26,000 from a gold shop in Jerantut. In the incident, which occurred at about 3 pm, the suspect allegedly entered the premises pretending to purchase an engagement ring before fleeing with several pieces of jewellery from the display counter.
