Johor: Johor police have arrested two men, aged between 30 and 35, in connection with a fire involving a firework stall and a food truck in Majidee here on March 23.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Deputy Police Chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat stated that initial investigations found the fire was caused by a generator used by one of the suspects at his firework stall. The blaze subsequently spread to the suspect's stall, causing the entire stock of fireworks to catch fire and explode, before engulfing a nearby parked food truck.
'The estimated loss from the incident is approximately RM50,000. However, police confirm that no fatalities or injuries were reported,' Hoo said at a press conference held in conjunction with the 219th Police Day Commemoration Assembly 2026 at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters today.
Acting on information received, police arrested one suspect in Kulai at 11.15 am on March 25. Following that, a second suspect was arrested in Kampung Melayu Majidee at 12.30 pm on the same day.
Checks revealed that one of the suspects holds a valid licence to sell, possess and purchase fireworks. Both suspects will be brought before the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court tomorrow for a remand application to assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, Hoo mentioned that a total of 66 police reports have been lodged since the start of Ramadan involving offences related to fireworks. Those with information on criminal activities are urged to contact the nearest police station, the Johor Police hotline at 019-2792095, or the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters operations room at 07-2212999.
