Kuala lumpur: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is still receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN), was today taken out for a short outing to a cafe at the Pavilion shopping mall in Bukit Damansara.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, his press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, stated that Tun Dr Mahathir was accompanied by IJN medical officers, his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, and IJN chief executive officer Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib. They spent 40 minutes at the cafe.
Sufi mentioned that Tun Dr Mahathir enjoyed a glass of ice chocolate during his first outing since being admitted to IJN on Jan 6 for treatment and recovery following a fall at his residence in The Mines, which resulted in a fractured right hip.
He added that Tun Dr Mahathir was then returned to IJN and has not yet been permitted to return home, continuing to receive treatment at the institute. Visits remain restricted to immediate family members only.
The 100-year-old leader was admitted to IJN on Jan 6 after falling at his residence in The Mines, Seri Kembangan, and was confirmed to have sustained a fractured right hip.
