Kuala lumpur: The legacy of Tun Abdul Razak Hussein as the architect of national development continues to guide efforts to build a more progressive, united, and prosperous Malaysia, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He highlighted the enduring influence of the second prime minister's contributions in strengthening unity, developing the national education system, eradicating poverty, and uplifting rural communities, which continue to impact the lives of Malaysians today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized that some leaders are remembered for their era, while others leave thoughts and legacies that transcend generations. He described Tun Abdul Razak Hussein as a statesman who laid a significant foundation for nation-building, stating, "To me, that is the true legacy of a statesman, not just what was built during his era, but how his vision and struggles continue to guide future generations in building a more progressive, united, and prosperous country," he said in a Facebook post.

Ahmad Zahid also expressed hope that the late leader's contributions and dedicated service to religion, race, and nation would be remembered for all time. Known as Malaysia's Father of Development, Tun Abdul Razak is commemorated for driving national progress, unity, and socio-economic growth through initiatives such as the New Economic Policy (NEP), the Green Book Programme to boost food production, and the Razak Report 1956, which laid the foundation of the national education system.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid attended the opening of a programme to commemorate the statesman at the Tun Abdul Razak Memorial, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The programme was organised by the National Unity Ministry through the National Archives and the Tun Razak Foundation to preserve and elevate Tun Abdul Razak's legacy for present and future generations.
