Georgetown: An elderly woman died after she was believed to have been knocked down by a car in a hit-and-run incident in the parking area of Desa Green Apartments here today. Timur Laut district police chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the 81-year-old local victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at 2.20 pm when the victim alighted from an e-hailing vehicle and was walking towards her residential block before tripping and falling onto the road. Subsequently, a car was believed to have moved straight ahead and hit the victim before the driver fled the scene, Abdul Rozak stated in a statement today.
ACP Abdul Rozak added that so far, the driver of the car believed to be involved in the accident has not come forward to file a police report. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He urged members of the public who have information about the incident to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Irwandy Hamled, at 013-5155656 to assist with the investigation.
